The new Electronic Chart Display and Information System ECDIS-E is an easy and cost-effective retrofit solution that complies with the latest performance standards.

The ECDIS-E combines an optimised feature set with easy to install hardware. Based on the VisionMaster FT platform, the new ECDIS-E has been designed with particular focus on retrofit installations where a cost effective solution is desirable.

The ECDIS-E is fully compliant with current type approval standards IEC 61174, IEC 60945 and IEC 62288 and when installed in twin configuration, the system allows paperless navigation, releasing the owner from maintaining paper charts updates.

Features & Configuration

ECDIS-E

The ECDIS-E integrates the latest technology advancement in the industry; compact Panel PC, solid state drive technology and VisionMaster FT ECDIS software. This has facilitated reduced installation times and minimum connections. It has also addressed system issues that could be caused by ships’ vibrations. Key features include:

• Dual configuration (main and back up)
• 4 series inputs (3 + 1 spare)
• Main back-up communication enabled via Ethernet cable
• Power Supply Back-up guaranteed via dual AC and DC supply
• Conning Information Display

For sensor interfacing, the ECDIS includes a gyro, speed log and GPS. Key features include enhanced route management, 284 mm x 531 mm chart presentation size, clearing lines, mariner objects, target management, data logins and ERBL, range rings, CPA and TCPA. Additional capabilities include AIS overlay, tracked target overlay, man overboard, conning information display (CID), ETA calculator, lat/long grid, user profiles and diagnostic reporting. Available chart formats include S57, S-63, Direct ENC, C-Map Charts and ARCS.

ECDIS-E Configurations

The ECDIS-E comes in two main configurations: Single and Dual, and can be installed as desktop, or in console through either back or front mounting.

Dual 24” ECDIS-E for Paperless Navigation

The Dual 24” ECDIS-E features 2 total solid state panel PCs with 24” wide screen monitors, pre-installed VisionMaster FT ECDIS-E software and a 2x Trackball assembly with USB socket. The Dual 24” also comes with 10 free ECDIS Type Specific Training licenses via E-learning specialist Safebridge.

Single 24” ECDIS-E System

The Single 24” ECDIS-E includes one total solid state panel PC with 24” wide screen monitor, pre-installed VisionMaster FT ECDIS-E software and 1x Trackball assembly with USB socket. This configuration also comes with 5 free ECDIS Type Specific Training licenses from E-learning specialist Safebridge.

The IMO has recently defined new carriage requirements for ECDIS. A vessel will need to comply with the IMO regulations in relation to vessel type, , size, and date of construction. Safebridge offers certified online VisionMaster FT Type Specific ECDIS training to meet the requirements of the industry. Safety of navigation and efficient handling of the bridge equipment is critical to individual and overall shipping industry success.

Online Training

The online tutorials of Safebridge take the trainee through the required procedures using the VisionMaster FT ECDIS-E software. This takes place on a virtual machine, to teach skills on the actual equipment display and controls. The student can access the training anywhere, at any time providing they have a sufficient internet connection.

The ECDIS-E solution consists of proven ECDIS software, which is added to an off-the-shelf panel PC with an integrated 24” display and trackball for easy operation. This setup shortens delivery times, reduces installation efforts and offers maximum flexibility for integration into existing bridge layouts.

The ECDIS-E Display/PC-unit is simple to install and comes with a flush mount bracket, a separate Interface-box with cable and a stainless steel trackball unit. The whole system is type-approved. ECDIS Charts

The ECDIS-E automatically associates radar and Automatic Identification System (AIS) targets to minimize mistaken identity and simplify watch standing. The system’s Universal Chart Manager is designed to work with a broad range of authorized vector and raster charts, including S57, C-Map, ARCS, PRIMAR and Pay as you Sail from Navtor.
